A new fully boxed never been inked Namiki Yakari Autumn Leaves fountain pen.

• 2009 drawing from the Namiki Yukari pen collection, in Japanese urushi lacquer painted freehand, depicting autumn and its maple leaves on a pagoda background.

  It was not until the sixth century, during the reign of Emperor Shomu, that the art of lacquer experienced a real revolution with the technique of maki-é.

  Maki-é, word for word “painting by sowing gold” is a very ingenious technique in that it takes advantage of the two properties, adhesive and covering, of urushi. It consists of spraying particles of gold, silver or other materials such as mother-of-pearl on a layer of black lacquer, roiro, or color, iro-urushi, still fresh.
